Very little to report for the first week of the season. There have been very few boats out and those that were reported only catching kelts. The weather has been mild this last few days but the weather today has been atrocious with strong gales and torrential rain. Lets hope the present floods have left the eggs deep in the gravel! The eggs in the hatchery are doing well, Tom O'Shea reports that he is removing very few infertile eggs each day, which is good news! The next few days are scheduled to be much colder with winds from the north west but at least it will be brighter than this last week we have spent in the stygian gloom!

COMPLIMENTARY HOT WHISKEY/PORT ON ARRIVAL FOLLOWED BY A HEARTY BEEF&GUINNESS STEW FOR ALL FISHERMEN FROM 4PM.
The opening day produced some of the worst weather of the year so far, with high winds and torrential rain all day. Nevertheless
some hardy souls ventured out and apart from Diarmuid Devereux and Neil O'Shea's first salmon, no other fresh fish were caught although
Neil O'Shea reported another fresh fish lost at the net!
A good number of kelts were returned including a large seatrout kelt, returned by Tim O'Connor out with Tom O'Shea, which in its prime last summer would have been a fine specimen seatrout! These specimen trout are often multi spawners and we would urge all anglers to
return them if at all possible.
The Paddy Carey Memorial Cup, for the first salmon on Lough Currane, was duly presented to Diarmuid Devereux at the Waterville Inn last evening, where all the anglers enjoyed excellent hospitality! Many thanks to Damian and his staff.
